Oyinkansola Born on June 14, 2002, Sarah Aderibigbe is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and model who performs under the stage name Ayra Starr. She is from the Nigerian state of Kwara. With the release of her self-titled debut extended play in early 2021 and its popular song "Away," which spent two weeks in a row at number four on Nigeria's TurnTable Top 50 and peaked at number 17 on US Billboard's Top Triller Global, Ayra Starr gained widespread recognition. This paved the way for the August 2021 release of her debut full-length studio album, "19 & Dangerous."
The album, which is mostly classified as Afropop and R&B, has received positive reviews from critics. In Nigeria, it gave rise to two top 40 songs. The lead single, "Bloody Samaritan," reached the top of the Top 50 chart, making history as the first solo track by a female artist to do so.

Early life
Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe was raised in Lagos, Nigeria, after being born in Cotonou, Benin, on June 14, 2002. Her parents are from Kwara State in Nigeria, and she has four siblings: two sisters, Tolulope and Jesutunmise, and two brothers, Ade and Dami. Due to her father's business, her family relocated frequently during her high school years, which made it difficult for her to make lasting friendships. Her interest in singing stems primarily from her family because she was raised in a musically inclined household. She started writing songs with her brother when she was just 10 years old and sang in a high school choir.
Education
Ayra Starr studied political science and international relations at Les Cours Sonou University. Her classmates regularly teased her about her age and appearance. Ayra Starr turned to music by listening to Nicki Minaj's music on her walk to school to cope with the sentiments she felt as a result of being teased. Her mother always supported Ayra Starr's desire to pursue a profession in singing and gave her every encouragement.

Music Career
Starr joined the Lagos-based modeling agency Quove Models in August 2018. She then worked as a model for brands including Esperanza Woman, Complete Fashion Magazine, and Mazelle Studio.
2019 saw the start of her online uploading of versions of songs by performers including Andra Day and 2Face Idibia. According to her, the reason she chose her stage name was that it "means woke and eye-opening, and that's what I stand for." She made an appearance in the "Dear Future Wife" music video by Eri Ife. She posted an original song called "Damage" on her Instagram profile in December 2019. Numerous individuals, including label chief Don Jazzy, heard this, which resulted in her signing her first recording deal with Mavin Records.
She began recording in 2020 with producers Louddaaa and Don Jazzy at Mavin Studios in Lagos. The 22nd of January 2021 saw the release of her self-titled debut extended play on Mavin Records. By March 2021, it had amassed over 15 million streams across Spotify, YouTube, and Audiomack, reaching the same rank on Apple Music in four additional nations. The hit song "Away" from the project peaked at number four on Nigeria's Turntable Top 50 and number 17 on the US Billboard Top Triller Global. The music video for it made its premiere on MTV Base's Official Naija Top 10. Between March and April, Ayra Starr released remixes of "Ija" and "Away" with Tokimonsta and Lilo, respectively. She contributed vocals to the song "In Sync" on Crayon's EP Midnight, which was released around the same time.

She performed at the Olori Awards, a virtual cultural event put on by the UC Berkeley Nigerian Students Association. The official music video for her song "DITR" was posted on YouTube by Mavin on April 28, 2021. The music video for another song, "Sare," was made available in June 2021. Afolabi Olalekan was the director of both music videos.
Ayra Starr performed in the Nigerian Idol season finale on July 11, 2021. Her debut studio album, 19 & Dangerous, was released on August 6, 2021. She teamed up with Don Jazzy and Louddaaa, who both contributed to the production of her EP Ayra Starr, as well as newcomers London and Andre Vibez, for the album. Her first time recording with guests like Fousheé and CKay was for the album. It received positive reviews from critics, most of whom described its music as being largely R&B and Afropop. The album's lone single, "Bloody Samaritan," peaked at number one on the Turntable Top 50 and produced two top forty singles, the highest of which was Starr's first number-one single. Ayra Starr became the first female artist to achieve this feat with a solo single when the song spent several weeks climbing the Top 50 chart and eventually peaked at number one on the chart for the week ending September 27, 2021.
She made her debut on the Pandora Predictions chart, and on August 28, 2021, she was placed second on Billboard's list of the Next Big Sounds. She was a featured vocalist on Johnny Drille Before We Fall Asleep single "in the light." She was appointed brand ambassador for Pepsi Nigeria on September 4, 2021. The following day, Starr gave a live Big Brother Naija eviction episode performance. Cheque and she worked together on the song "Dangerous," which is found on his album Bravo.

In 2018, Ayra Starr's father met the icy grip of death. Due to her close relationship with her father, Ayra was deeply saddened by his death. She has composed and performed songs in honor of her father. On the mainland, she lives with her mother and brother.
